They may not win at the Oscars but here are the Top 10 films I enjoyed the most in 2012.
The poll is judged by Expectation vs Quality vs Resonance.
10. Grabbers
Vicious, blood sucking Aliens attack an island off the coast of Ireland and the isolated locals are left to fend for themselves with some hilarious consequences. Ruth Bradley is great as the naive rookie cop sent up to the Island from the big city.

09. The Dark Knight Rises
Christian Bale will be well missed as The Batman with this being the last installment of Christopher Nolans epic trilogy. Anne Hathaway impressed as Catwoman and it was good to see Irish actors Aidan Gillen and Liam Neeson up there too.

08. 21 Jump Street
Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill make an unlikely comic duo but a surprisingly enjoyable one nonetheless. A pair of inept cops are sent to infiltrate a High School drug ring but things go slightly awry when the cops get a bit too into their assignment. Would definitely watch a sequel.

07. Safe
Jason Statham kicks and punches his way through New York falling afoul of the police and every gangster in the city in some of the best action set pieces of the year. The action is top notch and the plot is also pretty good in this one.

06. Sinister
Ethan Hawke's frustrated novelist continually puts his family's life at risk in this superior supernatural horror. Hawke is blinded by his own desire to succeed little realising how much danger he is actually in. Genuinely chilling use of home videos.

05. Shame
Michael Fassbender once again shows his acting brilliance and willingness to take risks with this emotionally complex drama. Carrie Mulligan more than holds her own as his fragile sister.

04. Chronicle
The tension steadily rises as three high school students gain further control of their new found super powers building up to an unexpectedly grand, destructive finale. Roll on Chronicle 2....

03. Project X
This movie has supposedly inspired the wanton destruction of private and public property across the Western World and received a lot of bad press on its release... I've been to a few House parties that could've gone this way. Great fun.

02. What Richard did
Irish actor, Jack Raynor makes an outstanding breakthrough performance as a privileged Dublin South side kid in Lenny Abrahamson's shocking, dark drama.
Raynor has been cast as the lead in the New Transformers film so will soon be known all across the world.

01. The Raid
Some of the most breathtaking, visceral action scenes ever seen on the big screen. Welsh director Garth Evans introduces Indonesian martial artist Iko Uwais to a worldwide audience in a spectacularly simple but effective story.
An elite SWAT team enter a high rise apartment block to take out a crime lord and once inside all hell breaks loose with the cops attacked from every direction. There is also a strong emotional heart to the film with several revelations throughout keeping the plot twisting and turning. Not to be missed.
